CHARLOTTE GUIDE
Water damage emergencies in Charlotte
The first hour is about safety and stopping the source—not about which dehumidifier brand is best.
Safety before cleanup
Stay out of standing water if outlets or cords are submerged. Cut power only from a dry location. Sewage and outdoor floodwater are contaminated—don’t treat them like spilled drinking water.
Stop the source
Supply-line break: main water shutoff. Appliance hose: fixture valve. Storm water: you can’t shut off the sky, but you can move essentials off the floor and note where water entered.
Document before demo
Photograph every affected room, soft goods and high-water marks. A simple room-by-room list beats memory later. We’re not insurance counselors—read your policy or ask your agent what they need.
What to tell a restoration company
Where water came from, how long it’s been sitting, whether it’s supply water or contaminated, and whether power is safely off in the wet zone.
